The midwife choice is made

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

Enter the Midwives The search for a midwife is over. And the winner is Morningstar Midwifery in Belfast. Pending, of course, actually meeting the midwives there and finding if I really connect with them. And also pending a more definite … Continue reading →

Anchor Baby

Posted on April 29, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

Do you know the concept of an anchor baby? If I have this right, the idea is that a pregnant, illegal immigrant will come to the US to have her baby because, by being born in the US, the baby … Continue reading →

Posted on April 2, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

Now that my world knows about the new baby coming in October, it’s time for me to make some decisions. Baby number eight was born in NH, as were all his brothers and sisters. Now, I am in a different … Continue reading →

Reaction to “The News”

Posted on March 20, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

How long can you hide a pregnancy? I couldn’t hide it long from my husband—I figured if I was going to be sick and tired, he was going to have to at least offer me sympathy in addition to back … Continue reading →

Posted on February 28, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

It occurs to me that nausea is not just a physical symptom in pregnancy. It is a psychological torture. It’s not enough that my stomach feels queasy and nothing seems to settle it. My mind keeps telling me if only … Continue reading →

Birth History 101

Posted on February 19, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

I love birth stories. I love to share as well as listen to birth stories. One of my small guilty pleasures is to be able to recount each birth with my health care practitioner when I go to an initial … Continue reading →

Ooops…I Did It Again.

Posted on February 14, 2012 by Wanda LaBrecque

I know lots of women are putting off childbearing until their late thirties or early forties. They have a career and a life and then a baby. But that’s not me. I started childbearing at nineteen and kept it up … Continue reading →

About the Author

Wanda LaBrecque lives in central Maine where she writes for The Rolling Thunder Express, the local free weekly paper, homeschools her children—five of whom are currently school aged-- and raises vegetables, fruits, chickens, and, her favorite, pigs. To this mix she adds a bit of freelance writing activity, hiking, skiing, baking, and, hey, why not? Another baby on the way. This will make nine children, and, at age 40, it will take a miracle to keep her sane.
